Year One

I'm basically embarassed to admit that I went to see this movie. In my opinion, this was one of those shows where you could see all the funny parts in the previews and don't need to spend your money or waste the hour and a half in the theater.
It was very disappointing. I will admit that I'm not the biggest Jack Black fan so if you happened to like Jack Black you may disagree with me. There were a few funny lines and scenes but I think they could have done better. I'd have to give it a definate thumbs down and recommend you save your money.

WCG Ultimate Gamer

I can't believe I'm still watching this reality show. I haven't even watched the episodes online. I'm actually recording the reruns to watch. Weird I know. Maybe not for much longer. I was disappointed with this episode. The game was DDR. Dance Dance Revolution universe 3 - a game I actually like to play and find entertaining.
The show really disappointed me with their real life challenge this time. All they did was get up on stage and try to dance. I think they could have been a bit more creative in my opinion. Too bad they didn't ask for my opinion I might have had a few ideas for a more interesting real life challenge.

Facebook

I can't believe I've actually managed to get hooked on Facebook. Several of my friends and relatives had joined facebook and the more they talked about it the more curious I got.

Now that I'm signed up I'm hooked on the games. There always seems to be some new game that everyone is playing. Lately I've been hooked into Bejeweled Blitz, Mafia Wars and the Heist.
The scores reset each week on Bejeweled Blitz and everyone at work plays. It's the topic of conversation quite often at work. If only I was just hooked on the 3 games.
But there is Tetris, Farm Town, Geochallenge, Scramble, Mind jolt, Texas holdem, Blackjack .....
I catch myself logging in each day to make sure my pet on pirates is fed, that my crops on Farm Town are ok, checking this week's high score on Bejeweled, etc. It's getting to be a bit much I'm afraid.

Facebook does have some good things. Today I actually ran across one of our neighbors from my Spokane days. How fun is that? It's been 25 years since we lived there. I suppose that is one nice thing about Facebook- how else could you reconnect with people so easily?

This week's movie review

Last night we went to the new Sandra Bullock/Ryan Reynolds movie "The Proposal".
I was pleasantly surprised. It was actually entertaining and you didn't see all of the funny parts during the previews.

I especially like the dog in this movie. He was so cute and such a character.

Betty White also added to this movie with her part as the grandmother. I will admit I did keep expecting her to start in on a St. Olaff story.
I'd have to give it a thumbs up.

WCG Ultimate Gamer

This weeks game looked really fun. Another one that I've never tried. It is called Project Gotham Racing 4. They even used the steering wheel controls with foot pedals. I might need to try that some time.
For the "real life" challenge they actually got to drive cars. They had to learn how to slide around corners with the car. They had to follow a short course with just two turns and there were judged on the corners. The judge was the 2008 Long Beach Formula Drift Champion. I guess that's what they call sliding around the corners. I suppose I should get the terminology correct. They were "drifting" around the corners not "sliding."
I thought it was funny that the racing game expert was one of the worst drivers in real life. One of the gamers in a New York and had never even driven a car. He actually did pretty good, but I don't think I want to get in a car with him behind the wheel.

Next week is DDR so you know what I will be watching at 1am Sunday morning.
I suppose I could just watch the episodes online now but where is the fun in that. lol

New iPod!!!

I actually did it. I bought a new IPod today. My old one was starting to head towards a slow death and it was time. Plus I really wanted more memory.

Now I have a silver iPod Classic 120 GB. Should be nice for my long plane rides in Sept. It would have been miserable if my old happened to finally die on my trip.

I never thought I would get so attached when I got my first iPod a few years ago, but I did. I rarely go anywhere without it now, especially since my new car has an MP3 jack.

WCG Virtua Fighter 5

I couldn't resist it. I set my DVR and ended up watching WCG Ultimate Gamer again. This week the game was Virtua Fighter 5. I've never actually played that one but it kind of looks fun.
For the "real life" challenge this time they met in an abandoned warehouse where they had a combat course set up.

They split up into 2 teams and challenged each other to complete the course in a Name that Tune style. "We can complete the course in 1 minute." "We can complete it in 50 seconds." "Go for it!"

The course was set up so that they needed to break boards throughout the maze. It must have been a lot harder than it looked, they actually had trouble completing the course.

From the previews of next weeks show it looks like a car racing game. My DVR is already set.

Geocaching in the Rain

Once again we got rained out. Troy, Angie and I set off to get some caches in the Bountiful area today. Kristine was planning to join us and we hoped to collect a few today. Unfortunately the weather didn't want to cooperate. Kristine was busy so we decided to start without her. We managed to collect a few between Centerville and Bountiful.

After a while we headed out for a couple along the Legacy parkway by Bountiful Lake. That's where the fun began...not! As we pulled into a parking lot by the lake it started to rain. We stayed in the car hoping it would blow over quickly but it didn't. We finally decided to make a run for it and tried to find the cache in between rain down pours. We had no luck and gave up unlike the fishermen in the area. People were still pulling up in the rain and getting their gear out to go fishing. That's what I call determination.

As we were leaving the rain started to let up a little so we decided to try another one that was down the road a little ways. We got about half way to the spot where the cache was suppose to be and the downpour started again. We ended up huddled in an underpass hoping the rain would let up and let us get back to the car. The wind really started to pick up and we ended up getting soaked as the wind blew the rain into the underpass and onto us.

We decided to give up and made a run for the car and called it a day. Maybe next time the weather will cooperate a little more.

Finally!

I decided it was time I started getting things together to obtain my passport. My trip is only about 3 months away and I hear it takes several weeks to get the passport. I called about 2 weeks ago and got an appointment to turn in my paperwork at the post office. I couldn't believe that I had to wait 2 weeks for the next available appointment. Good thing I didn't leave it to the last minute I guess.

It only took about 10 minutes and I got everything turned in. Now I guess I have to play the waiting game and hope it doesn't take too long to get here.

This week's movie review

Tonight we went to see The Land of the Lost. I'm not usually a Will Ferrell fan but I actually enjoyed this movie. (maybe I was just really tired) Either way I was laughing through quite a bit of the movie. Not so much at Will Ferrell's character but at his sidekick in the movie played by Will Stanton. He had some pretty funny lines. Overall, if you are in the mood for silly humor it's not a bad movie to see.

WCG Ultimate Gamer

I know there are a ton of reality shows on TV these days and most I admit bore me to death. Yesterday however I was up pretty late and caught a reality show rerun that I hadn't seen before. It is called WCG Ultimate Gamer. I actually found it entertaining.

If you haven't seen it before, and most probably haven't since it is on from 1-2am on Sunday mornings, it is about a bunch of gamers that compete at various games. This week's game was Rock Band 2. They start out getting paired up into 3 bands and then have to practice for their "real life" challenge. In this case, they had to perform in front of an audience with real instruments. After each band performed and were judged, they moved onto the isolation challenge where they had to actually play Rock Band 2. The person with the lowest score got sent to the elimination round. The person with the highest score got to pick the opponent for the elimination round.
In the elimination round, the 2 face off for in game of Rock Band 2 and the loser goes home.
Here's a link in case anyone wants to check it out. http://www.scifi.com/wcgultimategamer/.
I just might have to set my DVR to see what next week's game will be.

DDR Marathon

I can't believe it but Kristine and I actually played Dance Dance Revolution for almost 4 straight hours tonight. From about 8pm - midnight. Insane.. I know. It was fun though. We managed to get all the way through to the final song on the first DDR. BTW- I'm not convinced that it is humanly possible to complete that final song. We even tried cheating a bit. We each took two of the spots on the mat and tried working together but we couldn't even come close.

Once we got stuck on that final song, we switched to the Disney version of DDR and made it to the last section before giving up do to exhaustion.

What a workout! Now I think I need to start shopping for the DDR 2 game.

Topsy Turvy Trial

Ok - I admit it I actually bought an "as seen on tv" gift for my mom for mother's day this year.
I picked up a Topsy Turvy for her to try.
She ended up planting a tomato plant in it to see how it would work. She also planted several other tomatos as usual. We are going to see which does better this year. Here is the Topsy Turvy tomato plant on June 4th

Here are 2 of the regular tomato plants on June 4th.
All three were basically the same size when planted on the same day.
I'll update and include new pictures in a few weeks to compare.

My Little Monster

I had someone ask me to post a picture of my "little monster" so that they could see what a long haired chihuahua looked like.

Here are a few pics of my Abby out enjoying the sunshine yesterday.

Isn't she cute!

Fun at Work

Doesn't this look like fun? They decided to paint the building I work in and recarpet everything. It's been quite a big project. They are almost done however. Should have carpet in my office by tomorrow. Mine has already been painted.

Hallway to our offices.

View from the door to my office. (with a view like this who needs a window?)

My office with no carpet. Everything had to be moved and stacked up. What a mess!
