Today I actually went geocaching with Cheryl during our lunch break. It was nice to get out of the office for a while. We only managed to find 2 today but we have made plans to try for more next week.
We have been trying to solve a puzzle cache all week but just haven't got it right yet. We started out by driving to the area where we think it should be and wandered around a bit but had no luck. It was a bit difficult to look around too much because it was on the side of a road and it was just our luck that someone was cutting the weeds with a tractor while we were there. Kind of made it hard to look around without looking strange.
Anyway after that short search we moved onto one titled "It's a bird, it's a ..." Turns out this one was located close to the model port. I can't believe how busy that place was at noon on a Thursday. Several cars pass us while we were tramping around in the weeds looking for the cache. Cheryl found this one and we went back to the car. With the way my luck was going I had to spend several minutes trying to get burrs off my pant legs and shoelaces. I hate burrs.
Our next cache was part of a series that someone has put together called Salt Lake Degrees of Confluence. They have hidden caches at like integer intersections such as 1700 North 1700 West. At least it makes it easy to know where to start looking. I actually found this one pretty quick. I'd mention how it was hidden but I don't want to spoil it for anyone else.
We only had about 10 minutes left of our lunch but we did make an attempt to find one more. It was one in a series titled "Salt Lake Monopoly" We didn't have much luck. It was in a residential area which I don't like. I hate thinking that people will see us and think we are snooping around or casing the neighborhood or something. The GPS led us to New York Street. I guess that is why they picked this neighborhood to go along with the Monopoly theme. The problem was that the GPS was leading us right into the persons yard. Usually they are hidden close to the road so I didn't want to go into the yard to search. I think we are going to have to try again on another day.
It was a nice break to the work day. I think we will have to try for a few more next week.
