Day 15 Sept 18 - Florence/Pisa, Italy

Today we arrived in Livorno, Italy. We selected a shore excursion that would take us to Florence and Pisa. It was a beautiful drive to get to Florence.

One of the underground walkways in the city. This lead from the parking lot.

The Savoy Hotel

An outdoor market with kiosks. Our tour guide is the one with the mic and the sign.
It was suppose to be good luck to touch this statue.

This was like an outdoor museum with all the statutes to look at. It was called Piazza della Signoria - The Palazzo Vecchio. Florence's town hall. This square was the site of the "bonfire of the vanities" In 1497 the monk Savonarola persuaded Florentines to cast their wealthy goods into a massive bonfire to seek redemption.
Cellini's statue of "Neptune"

These statues were all along the side of their museum/art gallery.
I just took pictures of a few of the more famous ones.
Here's Leonardo Divinci

Donatello

Niccola Pisano

Basilica of Santa Croce
Church of Santa Croce - Michelangelo, Machiavelli and Galileo were buried in this church. It contains Giotto's frescoes of St. Francis and St John.

Michaelangelo's Tomb

Tomb of Galileo

Another restoration project

The Holy door. The detail engraved on the door panels was impressive.

This is where we had lunch in Florence. Sabatini's. It was the best meal I've had on this trip so far. The Lasagne was awesome. We sat by two guys from Brazil. One was from Rio and the other from San Paulo.

Pisa, Italy

The leaning tower of Pisa and the "Field of Miracles"
